“John Tory Named Chair of Toronto International Film Festival Board”

John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a recent statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction. His term officially commences on October 1, coinciding with this year’s festival taking place from September 10 to 20.

Tory succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as the chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his eternal pride in contributing to the festival’s evolution. Additionally, TIFF introduced three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, who had served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and contributions to the organization.
