Ed and Ann Meehan, tourists from the UK, had to spend the night on the airport floor after their flight was rescheduled and subsequently canceled multiple times. They ended up booking a flight with another airline, including an extended layover in Iceland, expressing disappointment that this experience had negatively impacted their perception of Canada.
Ryan Callbeck, who was traveling with a group of eight, faced a similar situation when his flight to Regina was abruptly canceled. Despite attempts to contact customer service, the calls kept disconnecting, leading to frustration and additional expenses for the disrupted travel plans.
Across Canada, 4,287 WestJet flight attendants went on strike citing concerns over compensation and working conditions. The union highlighted issues such as lack of adequate pay and unpaid pre-departure duties as reasons for the strike. WestJet reassured affected passengers of refunds or suitable alternative arrangements.
Officials at Halifax Stanfield International Airport advised passengers with WestJet bookings in the next three days to check their flight status online before heading to the airport.
