“Huskies Head to Vanier Cup After Mitchell Bowl Triumph”

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies secured a spot in the national championship by defeating the Queen’s Golden Gaels 22-11 in the Mitchell Bowl in Saskatoon. They will face off against the Montreal Carabins in the upcoming Vanier Cup in Regina.

Daniel Kubongo was named the offensive standout of the game for his remarkable 85-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter, contributing to the Huskies’ 14-1 halftime lead. His gesture of displaying the number 11 after scoring was in tribute to Huskie quarterback Anton Amundrud, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Head coach Scott Flory expressed deep emotions towards Amundrud, highlighting the team’s unity and support during a challenging week. The Huskies’ solid defensive performance played a pivotal role in the game, with linebacker Seth Hundeby earning the title of defensive player of the game for his impactful contributions.

Despite Queen’s showing determination in the third quarter, the Huskies maintained control, ultimately securing the victory. The team’s focus on special teams preparation and the outstanding defensive display were key factors in their success.

Looking ahead, the Huskies will compete in the Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina against the Montreal Carabins. The Carabins earned their spot in the championship game by defeating the St. Mary’s Huskies 49-19 in the Uteck Bowl.

The road to the championship has been challenging yet rewarding for the Huskies, and they are poised to give their all in the upcoming Vanier Cup showdown.
