Canadian figure skaters Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Éthier secured the bronze medal in the pairs competition at Skate America, held in Lake Placid, N.Y. The duo achieved a total score of 182.87, with 121.58 points in the free skating segment, marking their second bronze medal at Skate America. They previously clinched third place in the 2022 event with a score of 156.94.
In the same event, Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara claimed the gold medal with a total score of 215.99 points. The pair excelled in the free skating segment, earning 141.57 points, outscoring the Canadian skaters by nearly 20 points. Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava from Georgia secured the silver medal with a score of 195.73 after leading in the short program but finishing fourth in free skating.
France’s Kevin Aymoz celebrated his first Grand Prix victory in the men’s event, outshining competitors after several silver medal finishes in past events. Aymoz’s strong free skate performance in Lake Placid allowed him to claim the gold medal, surpassing Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Shaidorov and Japan’s Kazuki Tomono.
In ice dance, American favorites Madison Chock and Evan Bates impressed with a rhythm dance routine inspired by Lenny Kravitz, earning 84.77 points and leading the competition. The Canadian duo of Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha followed closely in second place, setting the stage for an intense battle in the free dance segment.
The women’s event saw Japan’s Rinka Watanabe take the lead after the short program, scoring 74.35 points. Watanabe’s performance, featuring music from “Moulin Rouge!” and “Moana 2,” showcased her technical prowess, while reigning world champion Alysa Liu of the United States closely trailed with 73.73 points.
The competition at Skate America promises further excitement as skaters vie for top honors in their respective events on the final day of the competition.
