The mastermind behind the acclaimed animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has been honored with the key to the city of Toronto, her hometown. During a discussion at Departure Festival on the film’s achievements, Maggie Kang was taken aback as Mayor Olivia Chow presented her with the key onstage. Mayor Chow commended the Korean-Canadian filmmaker’s success and noted that her journey would serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
After receiving the key, Kang, without saying a word, graciously posed for pictures alongside Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of her alma mater, Sheridan College. “KPop Demon Hunters” has broken records as Netflix’s most-viewed movie ever since its premiere, leading to a chart-topping soundtrack and the confirmation of a sequel in the works.
During the panel session, Kang, the writer and co-director of the global sensation, hinted at the upcoming project. She expressed her commitment to maintaining the same level of dedication as the first film and emphasized her goal to create a movie that aligns with her personal vision.
Later in the day, Kang is set to be honored with the cultural innovator award at the prestigious Departure Honours gala.
