The Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan has decided to continue providing treatment for wildlife at its clinic. Initially, there was a plan to halt wildlife treatment services at the Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC) while a review of its zoo, exotics, and wildlife services program was underway. The university cited sustainability issues, including funding constraints and limited resources at the hospital, which also needs to uphold its 24-hour small animal emergency service for animal owners and veterinary clinics in western Canada. At that time, there were uncertainties about whether wildlife would still be accepted post-review.
However, in a recent online statement, the University of Saskatchewan announced that wildlife clinic services will resume on August 18. The pause in services prior to this date was due to a lack of specialized coverage during the summer months.
