RCMP officials have reported the death of a man at an ostrich farm in British Columbia, where ongoing protests have been challenging a proposed cull for several months. The authorities have clarified that there is no suspicion of foul play related to the incident.
The man was discovered unresponsive by a police liaison team on Monday, prompting a response from Nakusp RCMP to the scene of what has been labeled as a “sudden death.” According to a press release from the RCMP, the man was found on the premises of the Universal Ostrich Farms protest camp in Edgewood, B.C. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by officers and subsequent paramedic intervention, the man could not be revived, despite extensive attempts.
The deceased individual has been identified, but law enforcement officials have encountered difficulties in locating and informing any next of kin. Nakusp RCMP are collaborating with the B.C. Coroner’s Service in conducting an investigation into the matter.
The man, who had reportedly been part of the protest camp for an extended period, received tributes on social media platforms dedicated to the protest movement. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Canada is scheduled to make a decision on Thursday regarding whether to hear a final appeal from the farmers contesting the cull mandated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency due to an avian flu outbreak within the farm’s bird population.
