Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. The recall impacts 6,082 cars in Canada, as stated by Hyundai officials. No incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to the issue have been reported in Canada, according to Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth in communication with CBC News.
In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recalled 54,337 vehicles for the same issue. The problem stems from a potential flaw in the hybrid power control unit, leading to the risk of overheating, as highlighted by Hyundai. The NHTSA warns that this could result in a vehicle not starting or operating in a reduced power mode, with the added risk of overheating and fire.
Hyundai has assured that it is reaching out to all impacted drivers and will provide a complimentary software update to address the overheating concern.
