“DOJ Investigates MN Officials for Immigration Obstruction”

The U.S. Department of Justice is looking into whether Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have obstructed federal immigration enforcement through their public statements, as reported by sources familiar with the situation. The investigation is reportedly examining a potential violation of a conspiracy statute.

Governor Walz responded to reports of the investigation, criticizing the perceived weaponization of the justice system against political opponents. He mentioned U.S. Senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, along with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, in his statement. Walz’s office stated they have not been officially notified of any investigation.

Mayor Frey also denounced the investigation, stating that it was an attempt to intimidate him for defending Minneapolis against the perceived chaos brought about by the current administration. He emphasized that his priority remains ensuring the safety of the city and its residents.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized on social media that “no one is above the law” in Minnesota. The Justice Department declined to comment on the investigation, which comes amidst a significant immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis and St. Paul resulting in over 2,500 arrests.

The operation intensified following the fatal shooting of Renee Good, prompting state and local officials to call for peaceful protests. Governor Walz, while advocating for peaceful demonstrations, encouraged citizens to document any ICE-related incidents for potential future legal action.

Both Walz and Frey have been vocal in demanding an end to the ICE deployment, criticizing it as a dangerous operation causing fear and endangering civilians. Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche held Walz and Frey responsible for the tensions and expressed determination to address the situation decisively.
