“Céline Dion Overcomes Rare Illness for Paris Residency”

After battling symptoms of stiff person syndrome for 17 years, Céline Dion has opened up about her illness and treatment regimen ahead of her upcoming five-week residency in Paris. The Canadian music icon revealed that she was officially diagnosed with the rare neurological autoimmune disorder in 2022, which caused severe pain and difficulty walking, often requiring high doses of Valium for relief.

Stiff person syndrome is a progressive condition affecting only a few individuals per million, characterized by muscle rigidity and painful spasms triggered by stress or sudden movements. Despite no approved specific treatment, various therapies can help manage the symptoms. Dion, who used to conceal her pain by attributing show cancellations to minor ailments, expressed relief at finally receiving a diagnosis that led to the cancellation of all her remaining performances.

In her recovery journey, Dion has embraced a rigorous regimen involving medication, physical therapy, vocal therapy, and immunotherapy. Additionally, she engages in 90-minute Pilates sessions three times a week and ballet classes twice a week to prepare for her return to the stage in September after a hiatus since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Describing her recovery as a miracle, Dion reflects on her gratitude for the opportunity to perform again, emphasizing the value of her fans’ support. Feeling strong, excited, and slightly nervous, she looks forward to her Paris residency comprising 26 concerts from September 12 to May 29 next year.
