Canadian dies in Iran amid regime crackdown

A Canadian national has passed away in Iran due to actions by the Iranian authorities, as stated by Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand. Anand urged the regime to cease its violent actions against demonstrators. Since late December, around 2,600 individuals have lost their lives in the protests, as reported by the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

The minister highlighted that the peaceful protests by the Iranian people, seeking to have their voices heard amidst the regime’s repression and continuous human rights abuses, have resulted in a blatant disregard for human life by the regime. Anand expressed her deepest condolences to the victim’s family in Canada, with consular officials staying in touch with them.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) acknowledged on Wednesday that a Canadian citizen had died in Iran but did not provide additional details. GAC is advising Canadians present in Iran to depart the country if they can do so safely.

Tensions are escalating in the region, with U.S. President Donald Trump pledging “very strong action” if Iran proceeds with executing protesters. The United States is pulling out some personnel from Middle East bases, following a statement by a senior Iranian official warning neighboring countries of potential strikes on American bases by Tehran.
