Bonnie Tyler Emerges from Coma, Still Critical

Singer Bonnie Tyler has come out of a coma but remains in critical condition in intensive care, according to an update on her official website. The Grammy-nominated pop star, known for her distinct gravelly voice, was hospitalized last month in Faro, Portugal, where she resides, for urgent intestinal surgery. Following the procedure, she was put into a medically induced coma.

Although she is now out of the coma, her recovery is slow but progressing, as stated in Monday’s update. The medical team is optimistic about her eventual recovery but acknowledges that it will be a gradual process. Tyler’s upcoming shows scheduled until August have been either canceled or rescheduled, with hope that the autumn performances can still proceed.

Bonnie Tyler gained fame for her iconic 1980s power ballad, “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” a song that continues to attract new fans, especially during celestial events like solar or lunar eclipses. Hailing from Wales, Tyler had earlier success with the hit “It’s a Heartache” in 1978 before solidifying her place in music history with “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” penned by Jim Steinman, known for his work with Meat Loaf.
