Dennis Haskins, famously recognized for his role as principal Richard Belding on the popular sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” has passed away at the age of 75, confirmed by his agent Jay Schachter. Describing the loss as tragic, Schachter expressed admiration for Haskins, emphasizing his love for both the character of Mr. Belding and his fans.
Haskins gained widespread fame portraying the affable and just principal at Bayside High, known for his iconic catchphrase in the school hallways: “Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?” Originating from his role in Disney Channel’s “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” which later evolved into “Saved by the Bell” on NBC from 1989 to 1993, the actor endeared himself to audiences.
He continued his portrayal of Mr. Belding in spin-offs such as “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” and reunited with former cast members Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, and Tiffani Thiessen on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2015. Colleagues and co-stars have taken to social media to express their sorrow and fond memories of working with Haskins.
