Prior to the agreement being signed, there were concerns among some B.C. Liberal MPs regarding the federal government’s support for a pipeline to northwest B.C., despite opposition from the provincial premier and certain Indigenous communities, as per sources.
B.C. Liberal MP Taleeb Noormohamed publicly affirmed the provincial caucus’s support for Carney and the government’s approach to building a strong and diversified economy while addressing climate change.
Noormohamed highlighted that the pipeline to the West Coast is still in the theoretical stage and would require consent from First Nations before progressing.
Sean Casey, Liberal MP for Charlottetown, praised Guilbeault’s environmental commitment and expressed confidence in the caucus’s unity, emphasizing the acceptance of diverse opinions within the Liberal Party.
Guilbeault’s extensive environmental background, including his work with Équiterre and Greenpeace, was acknowledged by Casey.
