“Prime Video Renews ‘Every Year After’ for Second Season”

The Prime Video series “Every Year After,” adapted from Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel “Every Summer After,” has been greenlit for a second season. The show, which features Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett in leading roles and is executive produced by Carley Fortune, premiered this summer.

The plot of “Every Summer After” unfolds over six years and a pivotal weekend, focusing on the relationship between childhood friends Percy and Sam, who reunite years later at a funeral. The upcoming season will draw inspiration from Fortune’s second book, “One Golden Summer,” set in Barry’s Bay, Ontario.

In “One Golden Summer,” the narrative centers on Sam’s brother, Charlie, as he navigates a newfound romance. The story introduces Alice, a photographer seeking solace at her childhood vacation spot with her grandmother. However, her plans are disrupted when the charismatic and irresistible Charlie unexpectedly re-enters her life, leading Alice to question the possibilities of a transformative summer.

Peter Friendlander, Prime Video’s head of global TV, praised the overwhelming response to “Every Year After,” highlighting the broad appeal of Carley Fortune’s storytelling and the audience’s strong connection to the Barry’s Bay universe.

Carley Fortune, a renowned Toronto-based journalist and author, has contributed to publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her portfolio includes acclaimed titles such as “Meet Me at the Lake,” “Every Summer After,” “One Golden Summer,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Our Perfect Storm.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” gained recognition as a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel featured on the show.

“Every Year After” is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
