“Six Hospitalized at Montreal Jazz Fest Amid Record Turnout”

During a free Montreal Jazz Festival concert, six individuals were transported to the hospital, as reported by organizers and Urgences-santé, who stated that the event proceeded as planned. A large crowd of festival attendees flocked to witness Quebec’s renowned masked band, Angine de Poitrine.

Benjamin Dansereau, a spokesperson for Urgences-santé, confirmed that 10 people received medical attention for various issues, including falls and intoxication. Of these, six were taken to the hospital, while four declined transport. Dansereau noted that some of those hospitalized were in stable but concerning conditions, emphasizing that such incidents were not uncommon during peak summer events.

Emergency crews were swift in their response and effectively managed the situation, according to Dansereau, who advised attendees to stay hydrated, seek shade if feeling overheated, and remain cautious in crowded settings.

Festival attendee Robert Mark expressed feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people at the concert, recalling challenges faced by individuals trying to navigate the crowd. Despite the commotion, Mark found solace in observing families, children, and fans clad in polka dots, paying homage to Angine de Poitrine’s distinctive attire.

Event organizers, led by Maurin Auxéméry, praised their team’s handling of the event, noting increased security measures and meticulous planning to accommodate the anticipated turnout. Place des Festivals was closed off before the show, and Auxéméry lauded the concert’s success, comparing the crowd size to the memorable turnout at Stevie Wonder’s 2009 performance.

Auxéméry expressed pride in hosting a local band that drew such a significant audience to downtown Montreal, underscoring the festival’s continued success and community support.
