Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has successfully obtained a temporary restraining order against an individual who attempted to enter her residence in Los Angeles without permission, causing what she described as “deeply alarming” incidents. In legal documents reviewed by CBC News, Carpenter’s legal team is pursuing a permanent restraining order against William Applegate, aged 31.
Carpenter detailed in a signed statement that on May 23, Applegate trespassed onto a neighboring property to breach the security fencing protecting her home, then proceeded to approach her front door and physically attempted to force entry by grabbing the handle. She expressed profound concern, labeling his actions as deliberate, calculated, and aggressive.
Providing evidence from Ring security camera footage capturing the man at her doorstep, Carpenter highlighted the fear for her personal safety induced by the totality of Applegate’s conduct. She added that despite intervention from her private security, the man persisted and falsely claimed to know her and be expected, which Carpenter strongly refuted as untrue.
Applegate was reportedly arrested following the initial incident, yet Carpenter revealed that he returned less than 24 hours later, loitering outside her residence for several hours. This behavior allegedly continued for multiple days, prompting L.A. police intervention and further distress for Carpenter.
Security investigations revealed a concerning pattern of behavior by Applegate dating back to at least April 20, 2026, leading Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department to declare Applegate’s fixation on Carpenter as disturbing and irrational.
A judge has mandated that Applegate maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her residence, vehicle, workplace, as well as her sister and sister’s boyfriend who reside with her. A court hearing is scheduled for June 17, with Applegate also facing criminal court proceedings on June 18 related to his arrest for criminal trespassing.
