Photographer Steve Sheppard shared an extraordinary moment he captured in St. Anthony, N.L., last week, describing it as a stroke of luck. Originally aiming to photograph an iceberg near the Fox Point Light Station, Sheppard adjusted his plan when he realized it was beyond his drone’s reach. Opting for a closer iceberg, he was surprised to discover a perfectly heart-shaped pool in its center when he flew over it. Sheppard expressed the thrill of the reveal, emphasizing the element of surprise since the iceberg’s top was obscured from the shore.
For Sheppard, observing icebergs from his drone’s perspective is a favorite activity, and he noted that this year has been particularly abundant in iceberg sightings. He mentioned the prevalence of icebergs across the Northern Peninsula and mentioned reports of sightings in the Bonavista and Twillingate regions as well, emphasizing that the horizon is teeming with icebergs.
The photographer’s adventure in capturing this unique moment showcases the beauty and wonder of nature, offering viewers a glimpse into the stunning landscapes of Newfoundland and Labrador.
