“5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Vancouver Island”

A seismic event measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale has occurred beneath the sea near Vancouver Island. The earthquake, documented by Earthquakes Canada, took place at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday, approximately 219 kilometers southwest of Port Hardy at the northern tip of Vancouver Island. It originated around 10 kilometers below the ocean floor, with authorities confirming no tsunami threat.

The epicenter of the earthquake is in close proximity to various significant communities on Vancouver Island, such as Campbell River located about 300 kilometers away and Port Alberni around 330 kilometers away. Reports indicate that tremors were felt in Metro Vancouver, more than 450 kilometers to the southeast, and also in parts of northern Vancouver Island.
