Tornado experts have verified that a tornado touched down in the vicinity of Kemptville, Ontario, on the previous Sunday. The tornado was generated during a passing storm, causing significant damage to trees and fields, as reported by the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) at Western University.
A survey conducted by researchers identified tree destruction that suggested the tornado reached a peak wind speed of 115 km/h along a brief and narrow trajectory. The tornado is believed to have initiated at 3:45 p.m. and traveled approximately 1.18 kilometers in a northeast direction.
Based on the findings, the tornado was classified as an EF0 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, denoting the lowest level on the scale used for tornado and downburst categorization, which ranges from EF0 to EF5. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries, according to the NTP.
Over the weekend, Environment Canada had issued a yellow-level warning for heavy rainfall in eastern Ontario and western Quebec, cautioning of anticipated rainfall amounts ranging between 50 and 100 millimeters.
