“South Korean Cyclist Pedals Across North America with Canadian Support”

A man from South Korea is cycling across North America, journeying from British Columbia to Montreal with the support of kind-hearted Canadians. Seongmin Ji, dressed in dark attire and a navy blue hat, may seem like a typical cyclist navigating the Sea to Sky Highway from Whistler to Vancouver. However, his bicycle stands out with license plates from various places like Alaska, Utah, Guatemala, and B.C. attached using bungee cords.

At 28 years old, Ji has already cycled the entire west coast of South America, Central America, and now North America. His current goal is to pedal over 5,000 kilometers to Montreal in a span of two months, aiming to discover more about himself, push his limits, and inspire others.

Starting his journey in Ushuaia, Argentina, Ji traveled to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and then made his way to Kitwanga, B.C., before heading down to Squamish and planning a route to Washington. Despite no prior training, Ji embarked on his cycling adventure after simply purchasing a bike.

Upon reaching Canada, Ji has relied on the generosity of strangers who have welcomed him into their homes. Utilizing the Warm Showers website, which connects touring cyclists with local hosts, Ji has found shelter, showers, and even laundry facilities offered by kind Canadians. During his stay in Smithers, B.C., Rory Luxmoore hosted Ji and was deeply impressed by Ji’s maturity and passion.

Ji’s peaceful and humble demeanor, combined with his impressive achievements, have left a lasting impact on the people he has encountered during his journey. He has also found solace and motivation from the example set by Canadian hero Terry Fox. Looking ahead, Ji envisions running across his homeland of South Korea to raise funds for cancer charities upon his return.

Throughout his challenging rides, Ji draws strength from the support he has received, reflecting on the kindness of those who have aided him along the way. His journey is not just a physical one but a testament to the goodwill and camaraderie he has encountered from strangers turned friends during his cycling odyssey across North America.
