Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Home Burglarized During Thunder Game

Police are looking into a break-in that occurred at a residence on Friday linked to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder while he was busy playing a game the previous night, as per reports. The Thunder directed inquiries to Nichols Hills police, situated north of downtown Oklahoma City. Authorities did not disclose the homeowner or the items stolen during the incident.

Originally hailing from Hamilton, Ont., Gilgeous-Alexander had officers respond to a burglary report at his home around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday while the Thunder were engaged in a game against the Washington Wizards at home. Local media displayed police presence at the property.

According to a police statement, the culprits had left the area before law enforcement arrived. No arrests have been made, and there is no indication of any threat to the public.

The burglary is reminiscent of a string of break-ins at residences of prominent professional athletes nationwide in recent months. The athletes have become targets due to the presumed presence of high-end items in their homes.

Notable athletes who have experienced home burglaries include NFL figures Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, NBA star Luka Doncic, and NHL player Evgeni Malkin. Law enforcement authorities have cautioned sports leagues about thieves striking on game days when players are away, often breaking in through rear windows.

In November 2024, the NBA issued a memo to teams advising enhanced home security measures. Recommendations included installing updated alarm systems with cameras, securing valuables in safes, removing online home listings with interior photos, utilizing guard services during extended absences, and employing dogs for added protection.
