New England Patriots standout wide receiver Stefon Diggs is currently facing criminal charges, including strangulation, following an altercation with his former private chef, as per authorities. The charges were revealed during a recent court session in Dedham, Mass. Diggs is specifically accused of felony strangulation or suffocation, alongside misdemeanor assault and battery charges.
In response to the allegations, Diggs’ attorney, David Meier, issued a statement vehemently denying the accusations. Meier emphasized that the alleged incident never took place, labeling the claims as baseless and unsupported. He attributed the timing of the accusations to a financial dispute between Diggs and the former employee, insinuating that it was a retaliatory move due to dissatisfaction with the resolution.
The New England Patriots also expressed their support for Diggs amidst the legal proceedings, affirming their backing for the player. According to a police report submitted to the court, the incident supposedly occurred when the chef confronted Diggs about outstanding payment while she was working for him. Allegedly, Diggs struck her and attempted to choke her, causing her distress and difficulty breathing.
Initially hesitant to press charges, the chef eventually decided to pursue legal action, stating that she had changed her mind and desired criminal charges against Diggs. Despite the off-field controversies, Diggs has been a vital asset to the Patriots, contributing significantly to the team’s success and recent AFC East title win as they gear up for the playoffs.
Furthermore, Diggs, renowned for his exceptional performance as an NFL wide receiver, notably during his tenures with Minnesota and Buffalo, signed a lucrative contract with New England, solidifying his place in the team. While facing legal challenges, Diggs remains a key figure on the field, showcasing his skills alongside quarterback Drake Maye. The Patriots organization has yet to comment on the ongoing legal situation involving Diggs, focusing on internal handling of off-field matters.
