“Paralympic Gold Medallist Paige Greco Dies at 28”

Australian Paralympic gold medallist, Paige Greco, has tragically passed away at the age of 28. The Australian Paralympic Committee and Australian cycling federation confirmed her sudden death at her Adelaide home due to a medical emergency on Sunday.

In a heartfelt tribute, Paige’s mother, Natalie Greco, expressed the profound impact her daughter had on their family, highlighting Paige’s kindness, determination, and warmth that brought them daily joy and pride. While devastated by her loss, the family remains immensely proud of how Paige represented Australia.

Born with cerebral palsy, Greco made history by clinching the first gold medal at the rescheduled Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, setting a new world record in the women’s C1-3 3,000-metre individual pursuit. She further secured bronze medals in the road race and time trial events.

Greco’s remarkable career included multiple world championship victories and World Cup accolades. Transitioning from Para athletics to cycling in 2019, she quickly made her mark by breaking world records and claiming gold and silver at the track world championship.

Paralympics Australia CEO, Cameron Murray, mourned the loss of a shining star in the Australian Paralympic Movement. He praised Greco not only for her athletic prowess but also for her exceptional character, describing her as a source of inspiration who uplifted those around her with her kindness and determination.

Greco’s legacy as an inclusive and supportive individual is set to endure, leaving a lasting impression on the community.
