Need a break from missing the World Series action? McMaster University in Hamilton is gearing up to host the 2025 U Sports Women’s Soccer Championship this week. The tournament will feature top university teams with matches starting on Thursday and concluding on Sunday, culminating in the championship game at 5 p.m. that day.
According to the McMaster Marauders website, eight teams will be vying for the Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy. The participating teams, in seeded order, include University of British Columbia (UBC), University of Montréal, University of Toronto, Cape Breton University, Laval University, Trinity Western University, McMaster University, and University of Guelph.
Of particular interest is the University of British Columbia team aiming for their third consecutive national title, having conceded only one goal throughout the season. McMaster highlighted in a recent news release that a win would mark them as the first program in modern U Sports women’s soccer history to achieve a three-peat.
The McMaster Marauders are back in the championship scene after their last appearance in 2018, where they secured a fourth-place finish. Viewers can catch all the tournament action on CBC.ca/sports, CBC Sports YouTube channel, and the CBC Gem app.
The matches will be held at Ron Joyce Stadium, with ticket prices varying from $5 to $25 based on the day and ticket category. The tournament schedule includes quarterfinals on Thursday, semifinals on Friday, consolation matches on Saturday, and the bronze and gold medal matches on Sunday.
