Canadian forward Jonathan David has been honored as the CONCACAF men’s player of the year for the 2024-25 season. The 25-year-old, who plays for Juventus, clinched the award for his outstanding performances both at the club and international levels. David is the second Canadian to win this accolade, following in the footsteps of two-time recipient Alphonso Davies.
Notably, David, a two-time winner of the Canada Soccer player of the year award in 2019 and 2024, was previously nominated for the CONCACAF honor in 2021, 2022, and 2023-24. On the women’s side, Melchie Dumornay from Haiti, who plays for OL Lyonnes in France, secured the CONCACAF women’s player of the year award for the second consecutive year.
The winners were determined through a voting process involving CONCACAF member association players, coaches, media representatives, and fans. David holds the record as Canada’s all-time leading men’s goal scorer with 37 goals in 67 appearances. CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, a Canadian and also FIFA vice-president, extended his congratulations to both David and Dumornay for their remarkable achievements in the past season.
Transitioning to club performances, David excelled by scoring seven goals in the Champions League for Lille in France, setting a record as the highest-scoring CONCACAF player in a single edition of the tournament this century. He also became Lille’s top scorer in European competitions before making a move to Juventus in July. Despite a slower start at Juventus with one goal and one assist in 13 games, David remains a key player for the Italian giants.
Other male nominees included Edson Alvarez (Mexico), Raul Jimenez (Mexico), Angel Sepulveda (Mexico), Malik Tillman (USA), and Manfred Ugalde (Costa Rica). Dumornay joins an exclusive club as only the second woman to win the CONCACAF award multiple times, alongside American Alex Morgan. Additionally, Dumornay was recognized for her exceptional performances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, earning the young player of the season award for the second year running.
Furthermore, Jimenez’s memorable free-kick goal against Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals was voted as the goal of the year. The Fulham striker’s impressive display included scoring crucial goals in Mexico’s victories over Canada and Panama. Fans also had the opportunity to vote for their favorite goal from a list of 12 nominees, with Sinclair and Berhalter among the contenders for their remarkable strikes.
