The nominations for the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today, showcasing HBO’s strong presence at the top with their show “The Pitt” leading the pack. The medical drama starring Noah Wyle received 25 nominations, closely followed by HBO’s “Hacks” with 24 nods. “Hacks,” a comedy series centered around a stand-up legend and her Gen Z writer, set a new record for the most Emmy nominations for a comedy in its final season, surpassing the previous record held by “Schitt’s Creek.”
Apple TV also saw success with two of its shows. The dark comedy “Widow’s Bay” secured an impressive 19 nominations, while the post-apocalyptic series “Pluribus” received 16 nominations. Despite airing in Canada on Crave like “The Pitt” and “Hacks,” “Heated Rivalry” did not receive any Emmy nominations due to the show being solely produced and financed by Canadian companies, which didn’t meet the Primetime Emmys’ requirements for foreign productions. However, Connor Storrie, a co-lead on the show, did receive a nomination for his appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
The nominations were announced by previous Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”) and Jeff Hiller (“Somebody Somewhere,” “Widow’s Bay”) at the Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 14 and will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay from “Law & Order: SVU,” marking the first time in 15 years that a woman will host the show.
This year, the Emmys will introduce a new “legacy award” to honor programs that have had a significant and lasting impact on audiences, society, culture, and the industry. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present this award, the first new Emmy category in almost two decades.
