Former Michigan Football Coach Charged in Stalking Case

University of Michigan’s former football coach, Sherrone Moore, faced charges of home invasion and stalking after allegedly breaking into the apartment of a woman he had an affair with and threatening suicide following the end of their relationship. Prosecutors revealed that the woman reported the affair to the school, leading to Moore’s termination from his coaching position.

The woman had been involved in a long-term affair with Moore before ending it, prompting Moore to repeatedly contact her despite her refusal to engage. When she reported the relationship to the university, Moore lost his job for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

After being dismissed, Moore forced his way into the woman’s apartment and threatened suicide by brandishing kitchen knives and scissors, warning the woman that he would make her witness his death. Moore was quoted as saying, “I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You’ve ruined my life.”

A plea of not guilty was entered on Moore’s behalf, and he was released on bail after a court hearing. Moore, who is married with three children, was ordered to have no contact with the woman and to undergo a mental health evaluation. He will wear a GPS tracking device, stay in Michigan, and abstain from alcohol as part of his conditions.

Moore, who had a five-year contract with a base salary of $5.5 million, will not receive a contract buyout as he was terminated for cause. Following his departure, assistant coach Biff Poggi will serve as the interim head coach while the university searches for a permanent replacement.

The Wolverines are scheduled to play in the Citrus Bowl on December 31, with uncertainties surrounding potential player transfers and donor investments in the program as the search for a new head coach continues.
