“Brazil Triumphs in FIFA U-17 Quarterfinals”

Brazil emerged victorious over Canada in the FIFA women’s under-17 World Cup quarterfinals in Rabat, Morocco, after a tense penalty shootout on Saturday. The Brazilian team secured a 5-4 win in the shootout, with Gabi Pusch, Gi Iseppe, Kaylane, Pepe, and Andreyna converting their penalty kicks against Canadian goalkeeper Khadijah Cisse.

Despite a strong defensive performance from Canada’s Bridget Mutipula, who was pivotal throughout the game, Brazil’s Ana Morganti denied her attempt in the shootout. The match remained scoreless after regulation time, leading to the penalty shootout.

Canada, which had dominated previous matches with an 18-2 goal difference, struggled to break through Brazil’s defense. Brazil outshot Canada 22-6, demonstrating their offensive prowess.

In the semifinals, Brazil will face defending champion North Korea, who secured a 5-1 victory over Japan. Quarterfinal matches on Sunday will feature France against the Netherlands and Mexico against Italy.

This marked Canada’s fifth quarterfinal appearance in the under-17 championship, with previous appearances in 2008, 2012, and 2014. Brazil, on the other hand, had never reached the semifinals in their three previous quarterfinal appearances.

The game witnessed referee controversy as a challenge by Canada on a play involving Brazil’s goalkeeper was upheld by the referee after a video review. Both teams had opportunities to score, with Kaylane and Ravenna coming close for Brazil, and Melyna Alexis having a chance for Canada.

Canada topped Group D to advance, while Brazil secured their spot in the knockout stage by finishing second in Group A. Both teams displayed strong performances throughout the tournament, setting the stage for an exciting semifinal clash for Brazil against North Korea.
