Kelowna RCMP reported the arrest and detention of an individual following a fire outbreak at Knox Mountain Park on Friday. Access to the park, situated near the downtown core in a residential neighborhood, was restricted by law enforcement as smoke and flames were detected on the mountainside. Police and fire department personnel assisted hikers in safely descending the mountain, with crews successfully containing the flames by 4:45 p.m. PT despite challenging high winds in the area.
Knox Mountain Park, identified as Kelowna’s largest natural park spanning 3.85 square kilometers just north of downtown, was subjected to controlled burning by the city on October 16.
