The 2027 Memorial Cup has been awarded to the Guelph Storm, as confirmed by the Canadian Hockey League. This prestigious national hockey championship will coincide with the city’s bicentennial celebrations that year. Canadian Hockey League president Dan MacKenzie praised the Storm’s exceptional bid, highlighting their organizational strength and community spirit that make Guelph a unique junior hockey market.
The Guelph team emerged as a finalist to host the Memorial Cup following the announcement in September, with the Kitchener Rangers also in contention. Subsequently, both teams underwent further evaluations, including a visit by an independent panel with extensive sports experience, before the final decision was made.
Expressing great pride, Scott Walker, Guelph Storm partner and president of hockey operations, emphasized the significance of hosting the Memorial Cup during Guelph’s bicentennial year, calling it a momentous occasion for the team and the city. Mayor Cam Guthrie echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement about hosting the event as a centerpiece of Guelph’s 2027 bicentennial festivities.
The Memorial Cup is scheduled to take place in Guelph in the spring of 2027, with specific dates to be announced later. Following this, the upcoming Memorial Cup will be held in Kelowna, B.C., from May 21 to 31, 2026.
