“New ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spinoff Set in West Texas Greenlit”

ABC has given the green light to a new spinoff of the popular medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy,” set in the rugged landscape of West Texas. The untitled series is set to debut during the 2026-2027 broadcast season with a “straight to series order,” bypassing the traditional pilot episode.

The show will focus on a team at a rural medical center in West Texas, described as the last hope for medical care before vast stretches of wilderness. The choice of setting has elicited mixed reactions from fans, with some speculating on potential connections to the original series.

Despite the change in location, the spinoff will retain the creative talents behind the scenes, with Shonda Rhimes continuing as co-creator and executive producer alongside Meg Marinis. Ellen Pompeo, the longest-running star of “Grey’s Anatomy,” will also serve as an executive producer for the spinoff.

While details on crossover with the original series or appearances by familiar faces remain unknown, Marinis expressed enthusiasm for expanding the “Grey’s Anatomy” universe with new characters and stories that capture the essence of the long-running show. Produced by Shondaland and 20th Television, the upcoming series in Texas marks the fourth spinoff of “Grey’s Anatomy,” following the success of “Private Practice,” “Station 19,” and “Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team.”
