Renowned puppeteer Sid Krofft, known for creating colorful characters that captivated audiences in the 1960s and ’70s, passed away peacefully on April 10 at the age of 96 at the residence of his close friend and business partner Kelly Killian. Alongside his brother Marty, Sid Krofft was the creative force behind various TV shows, including the beloved series, “H.R. Pufnstuf,” which achieved cult status.

Describing “H.R. Pufnstuf” as their “first baby,” Krofft and his brother crafted a whimsical narrative featuring a young boy, a talking flute, and a six-foot-tall dragon. Publicist Adam Fenton noted that Sid Krofft cherished interacting with his fans until his final days.

Ronnie Burkett, a friend and fellow puppeteer, fondly recalls Krofft’s youthful spirit and tireless passion for his craft. Reflecting on Krofft’s enduring career, Burkett emphasizes the importance of dedication and unwavering focus in achieving long-term success.

The term “subversive” has been used to characterize the puppetry of Sid and Marty Krofft. Recalling a memorable encounter with Sid Krofft at a show in Los Angeles, Jacobs describes the touching moment when Krofft praised him as the “king of marionettes,” underscoring the impact of mentorship and shared passion in the creative industry.
