“Saskatoon to Host 2027 Brier for 100th Anniversary”

Saskatoon has been selected as the host city for the 2027 Brier, marking the 100th anniversary of the men’s curling championship. The centennial festivities will commence on February 26, 2027, at SaskTel Centre, making it the seventh time Saskatoon will welcome the Brier. The announcement was made by Curling Canada at a local Montana’s BBQ & Bar, the title sponsor of the Brier, and ticket sales are anticipated to start in March.

According to CurlSask executive director Steve Turner, Saskatchewan is the perfect place to commemorate the Brier’s centennial due to the province’s deep-rooted passion for curling. Turner emphasized that when the Brier comes to Saskatchewan, it is more than just a sporting event—it becomes a provincial celebration.

Regina was the host city for the last national men’s curling championship in 2024, and Saskatchewan has a rich history of hosting and winning the Brier. The last time Saskatchewan claimed the Brier title was in 1980 when the Saskatoon team led by skip Rick Folk emerged victorious. Hosting the Brier in 2027 provides Saskatoon with an opportunity to highlight its charm and honor the province’s profound connection to curling, as stated by Mayor Cynthia Block.

The successful bid was a collaborative effort between Discover Saskatoon and Saskatoon Destination Marketing Hotels Inc. Discover Saskatoon, the city’s official destination marketing organization, secured funding support from city councillors to enhance its bid. The event is projected to bring substantial economic benefits to Saskatoon, including direct business sales, provincial tax revenue, and increased hotel bookings.

With the bid secured, Discover Saskatoon will present detailed reports to the city council regarding participation numbers, economic impact, and event budget specifics. The inaugural Brier took place in Toronto in 1927, and the winner of the 2027 Brier will represent Canada at the 2027 World Men’s Curling Championship. The upcoming 2026 Brier is scheduled to be held in St. John’s, N.L., starting on February 27.
