“Lions Edge Stampeders with 43-Yard Field Goal”

Sean Whyte made a 43-yard game-winning field goal as the B.C. Lions defeated the Calgary Stampeders 33-30 in the West Division semifinal in Vancouver. Quarterback Nathan Rourke threw for 223 yards, completing 16 of 23 passes and scoring a rushing touchdown. Additional touchdowns for B.C. came from Jeremiah Masoli and Robert Carter Jr., who ran 95 yards for a kickoff return touchdown. Whyte also kicked four field goals, including the decisive one.

Calgary’s quarterback, Vernon Adams Jr., threw for 334 yards against his former team, completing 23 of 33 passes with touchdowns to Clark Barnes and Jalen Philpott. Quincy Vaughn scored a rushing touchdown for the Stampeders, and Rene Paredes made two field goals, one from 50 yards.

The Lions will now advance to the West Division final against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on November 8 in Regina. In another game on Saturday, the Montreal Alouettes defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 42-33 in the East Division semifinal, setting up a matchup with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East final, also on November 8. The winners of the division finals will compete at the Grey Cup in Winnipeg on November 16.
