A teenager from the Edmonton region is now facing fresh charges following a terrorism peace bond due to suspected connections to an online network promoting violent extremism. The 15-year-old was initially detained in May, with the RCMP commencing peace bond proceedings under concerns of terrorism. Authorities expressed beliefs that the youth was inclined towards committing terrorism acts associated with the 764 online network, which preys on vulnerable children through gaming platforms like Minecraft and Roblox, enticing them into private online conversations. The 764 network reportedly encourages underage individuals to engage in sexual activities, self-harm, and animal abuse, with some members holding extreme ideological perspectives and exploiting children by desensitizing them to violence.
Law enforcement officials mentioned that the recent action was prompted by “escalatory behavior in a February 2025 incident.” A peace bond enables authorities to oversee individuals showing potential for criminal behavior in the absence of concrete evidence of an actual offense. The RCMP disclosed that a forensic analysis of the teenager’s electronic devices led to the new charges, including involvement in activities of a terrorist group, promoting hatred, making threats, and possessing material related to child sexual abuse.
While police have not released further details about the adolescent, who remains anonymous as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, it has been verified by CBC News during previous court appearances that the individual is male. The teen is currently held at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre and is set to appear in court on Friday.
